end of digital citizenship

At the end of the digital citizenship unit i have learned a lot. It is pretty crazy how one thing that you can post online can either hurt you or help you a lot in the long run. Believe it or not, jobs do look into peoples digital citizenship to see what kind of person you really are. They dont want someone who is offensive or parties a lot. It could make a big difference in the future if you stop and think before you post something. You never know who is going to come along one of your pages whether it be twitter or facebook and either be disgusted or intrigued by who you are. Someone could have the same idea as you and get ahold of you threw twitter and want to join together and start something big. Twitter is worldwide now and people all across the world could see your work and decide that you are the right person for whatever job they have.

waldorf schools and technology

at this private school technology is not allowed. the administration don't even think that the kids should be doing anything with electronics even at their own homes. i think the kids need some technology just because school is very boring. not one single person likes sitting through a day of school but we all have to do it. you need that brake from being told what to do and be able to look something interesting up on the web or play a game. this doesn't mean sit on your computer or ipad all day and not pay attention to what the teachers are saying but you have to be able to make a stable barrier for when is to much playing. if i were the parents of these kids and i was paying up to 40,000 dollars just on k-12 then i wouldn't want the kids playing around with games and computers, i would want them to get the best education possible. so i see where they are coming from but it is still healthy to have some fun in school and not have it be all about work. also, they are talking mostly about elementary and middle school kids and when i was in those grades i didn't use much technology but it also wasn't really that big then. high school students need technology more because it is a getaway for all of this information you have to remember. so the idea of technology in school and for kids can go back and forth a lot. some schools recommend i and some think its the stupidest thing they could come up with.

social media lies

in this article, it is the pizza digiorno that has the quote "its not delivery, its digiorno". yet they are saying they will deliver it to their main tweeters. i dont think that they should do this because its not supposed to be delivery and if people catch onto this they are going to look down upon digiorno. http://socialmediatoday.com/mattrhodes/101833/using-twitter-wrong-reasons

other schools with 1:1 integration

a school in concord, north carolina has integrated ipads into their curriculum. it is is similar to here at bhs but they are also giving it to middle school students. i do not thing that is a good idea because they are not as mature as high school students and there would probably be a lot more braking them. not on purpose of course but just dropping them in the halls and whatnot. you never know what could happen when a 13 or 14 year old has an ipad in their hands. i personally think it is a waste of money to give it to middle school students. http://thejournal.com/articles/2011/05/11/evolving-1-to-1.aspx

google reader..

i learned how to use google reader the other day! i was excited when i found out what you can actually do with it.you can have google filter out information that you want. it sends you an email once a day giving all the information that has been added to google about that topic. it is really cool if you are interested with one subject that you want to know a lot. if you have yet t try it you should go to google and try it IMMEDIATELY.

backchannel input

i really liked the backchannel. sometimes i would daze off and miss something but on the #dlit4 page, someone would be tweeting about it. it kinda summarizes whats going on in the video. it helped me understand the video better because i couldn't hear some of the important facts that were being said. twitter helped me realize what was going on and how the independent student body would be better than how schools are now.
the video that we watched showed me that an independent high school is better than how schools are now. kids are very contained by adults while in school. obviously school is boring, no one wakes up and is happy that they are going to school. we are trained to do it ever since we were 3,4, and 5. independence will let kids enjoy what they are learning about and not what they are told to learn. as we all know, kids are rebellious and dont like to listen to adults, especially teachers.

colleges tracking social chatter?

Right now as i speak, there are colleges getting applications from people in high school and immediately looking at there facebooks, twitter, etc. my perspective on this is that it is ok. being a high school student you should be smart enough to not put stupid pictures up or stupid posts. this could very well make a college throw your application away without them looking in depth to it. you never know who is actually looking at you, it could be anyone around the world, possible cops and whatnot. all kids just should be careful on what they say.
